Upstate Shag Club History

The Upstate Shag Club Began in March of 2004. The club's motto is Good Music, Good Friends, Good Times. This phrase reflects our belief that dancing , particularly shagging, South Carolina's state dance, provides a way for people who love the dance to get together and enjoy not only the music and the shag, but the good company of others who share the same interest. Our club dance events are held on the second Saturday of every month at Southport Food & Spirits in Roebuck, South Carolina with music provided by area shag DJ's most of whom are members of the Upstate Shag Club.

Those of us who decided to create a new shag club did so with the goal in mind to provide a relaxed, friendly, fun atmosphere in which to " Keep The Dance Alive".
We wanted to present a regional approach, thus the "Upstate" Shag Club, not a specific city or community. We welcome members from all around the upstate, where the shag feels at home! We ultimately want to be a club that boast new shaggers, long time shaggers, non- shaggers who just love the music or those who want to learn the dance and who have never found the right place to start.

Aside from the social benefit of our club, we make charitable giving a regular part of our activities.
 We are also proud to be a member of The Association of Carolina Shag Clubs.
